The People’s Guide has officially launched in South Africa with the publication of the wine guide by Michael Olivier, Neil Pendock and Anibal Coutinho. Over 1200 wines were tasted blind, of which 561 were deemed good enough to be in the guide. The book promises to be a very useful tool for consumers to select wines to match with food and to meet their palates and wallets. The book is available nationwide.

The Secret Handshake is a special wine made by Bruce Jack at Flagstone Winery for the Cape Winemakers Guild annual auction. The Cape Winemakers Guild is a prestigious group of 37 winemakers, representing some of the top winemakers in South Africa. Each year, members have to produce a special, hand-crafted wine – a wine that differs from their every day production – to be put on auction. In this video, Michael has the privilege of tasting one of Bruce Jacks entries for this year: The Secret Handshake 2005. This is a Cabernet Merlot blend, and while the source of the grapes and the barrels remains a secret, there is no secret to the quality Michael encounters – unforgettable!
